We do not sell your data.
We do not share your financial information, except as necessary to power the Chief of Staff as described below.
Your data is protected and private.
What We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide the Onward service:
- Account information: Email address and name for authentication
- Onboarding data: Employment status, career goals, industry, and what brought you to Onward
- Financial inputs: Expense estimates, savings, severance, and other planning inputs you provide through the Chief of Staff
- Career data: Resume content, career goals, and professional background you share
- Chief of Staff conversations: Chat interactions to provide personalized guidance
- Community content: Posts, replies, and interactions in the community
- Events: Luma event links and associated metadata you post
- Usage data: How you interact with the platform, including session metadata such as hashed IP address, browser type, and referrer information, to improve our service
- Local storage: Checklist completion states and session preferences stored in your browser
What We Do NOT Collect
- Social Security numbers
- Credit card details (handled directly by Stripe)
- Direct access to your bank accounts
How We Use Your Data
Your data is used solely to:
- Operate and provide Onward and its features
- Power the Chief of Staff to deliver personalized support, financial analysis, and career guidance
- Generate financial runway estimates, career insights, and daily action plans
- Match jobs and surface relevant career opportunities
- Surface relevant networking connections through Warm Introductions
- Improve the platform's functionality and user experience
- Send service-related communications
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or selling to third parties under any circumstances.
AI & Third-Party Processing
The Onward Chief of Staff is powered by Anthropic's Claude API. When you interact with the Chief of Staff, generate career insights, create an action plan, or use resume features, your data is sent to Anthropic solely to deliver the requested functionality. Anthropic does not retain your data for training purposes. We have a data processing agreement with Anthropic aligned with our privacy standards.
We use the following third-party infrastructure and service providers who may process your data on our behalf:
- Anthropic — AI processing (Claude API)
- Stripe — payment processing
- Backblaze B2 — encrypted offsite backup storage
- Loops — email delivery and retention messaging. We sync limited account data to Loops to personalize and time these emails: your email address, Career Score and score band, estimated runway, and current plan status. We do not send your financial inputs, resume, conversations, or visa information to Loops.
These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and may not use it for their own purposes.
Payment Processing
Subscription payments are processed by Stripe. Your payment card details are collected and stored directly by Stripe. Onward never receives or stores your full card number. Stripe's handling of your payment data is governed by their Privacy Policy. We receive only confirmation of payment status, subscription tier, and billing period dates from Stripe.
How We Protect Your Data
- Encryption in transit: All data is transmitted over TLS 1.2+
- Encrypted backups: Daily offsite backups are encrypted using AES-256 and stored with Backblaze B2
- Application-level access controls: Access controls ensure users can only access their own data
- Admin access: Administrators may access individual account data for support, moderation, and operational purposes
Your Rights
You have full control over your data:
- Edit: Modify any information you have provided through your account settings
- Delete: Permanently remove your account and all associated data by contacting us at contact@liveonward.io
- Access: Request a copy of all data we store about you by contacting contact@liveonward.io
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all personal data including Chief of Staff conversations and profile data is removed from our active systems. Please note that encrypted backup copies are retained for up to 30 days following deletion as part of our standard backup rotation before being permanently purged. Anonymized, aggregate statistics may be retained for product improvement purposes.
California Residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of your personal information, opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell personal information), and not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. European Users (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation including the right to access, correct, delete, and port your personal data, and to object to or restrict processing.
